The Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (CVMDL) provides veterinary diagnostic laboratory services and professional expertise, and collaborates with state and federal agencies to detect and monitor diseases important to animal and human health and detect newly emerging diseases. CVMDL strives to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and to contribute to the education of graduate, undergraduate, and post-doctoral students (including veterinarians) seeking advanced training in disease related studies.

Client parking spaces are available between Torrey Life Science Building and Atwater Laboratory. Once parked in one of the CVMDL client spaces follow the sidewalk to the rear entrance of the Atwater Laboratory Building (small red double doors). The CVMDL Client Reception Area is just inside.

Tick Testing

We are pleased to offer PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tick testing for the following pathogens: Borrelia burgdorferi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and Babesia microti. The tests may be requested individually or as a 2-test panel or 3-test panel. All ticks submitted to CVMDL are identified morphologically by species, stage, and degree of engorgement prior to testing. Results are reported within 3-5 business days of receiving the sample.

Rabies Viral FA Testing

Rabies Viral FA testing is performed by the CVMDL only when there has been NO significant human exposure.
